Graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Landscape Architecture from Iowa State University in 1981, Dave returned back to his native town of Denver. Working through the ranks of laborer, construction foreman, and designer he experienced residential design/build from the ground up. Opening Phase One Landscapes in 1988 he partnered with Dennis Frank, and together they have designed and built 100’s of landscapes over the last 25 years in the finer neighborhoods of the Greater Denver Metro area. Maintaining his personal vision with company goals, the culture of quality and service is paramount in his management style. As the firm has grown his daily involvement with the team and the clients remains strong. As members of ASLA and ALCC, Phase One Landscapes projects have won numerous ALCC Awards, been featured on ASLA Garden tours, and been published in national and local magazines.

Dennis Frank

Dennis helped to establish Phase One Landscapes 25 years ago. Building his construction division with a solid foundation of skilled craftsmen, he manages a cohesive team of talented foremen and their crew members. Under his leadership, the construction division has grown year after year, installing beautiful projects of all sizes and degrees. We are proud of the many award-winning projects constructed throughout the years, and our approach to quality has rewarded us with many happy clients. Dennis enjoys his time off, spending time with his family and grandkids, tinkering with projects around the ranch and watching the children work their way through college.

Scott Kleski

For Scott, it’s all about the people! No matter how long the hours or how difficult the design challenge, he feels that his job is worth it at the end of the day. With a Bachelors of Landscape Architecture from the University of Georgia and 15 years of experience, Scott has found his niche at Phase One Landscapes. Recently receiving his Colorado License, Scott puts all his experience into each project big or small. Citing great design and great crews as a winning combination, he loves the challenge and the beginning of each day. In his off time, Scott enjoys spending time with his wife Brooke, and their two children Levi and Alexin. Work included!

Dalva Hedlund

Dal graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelors degree in Landscape Architecture. He has been with Phase One Landscapes since 1991. Though his hair has gotten greyer, his experience has also grown along with the company. He has done it all during that time – surveying, drafting, design, drainage engineering, cost estimates, and project management. Dal often brings a dose of reality to designs, and is by necessity sometimes the office curmudgeon. He is currently the cost estimator and resident expert for detailed drainage analysis and grading plans. Dal enjoys his time away from work with his wife and two teenage boys, playing squash, and exploring this great state.

Trevor Bodmer

Trevor graduated with a degree in Landscape Architecture from California Polytechnic State University in 2010 and has been with Phase One ever since. Trevor enjoys working in the design/build arena because of the comprehensive process devoted to each project. Having grown up in Montana, attended school in California and built school grounds for impoverished communities in South Africa, Trevor brings energy and a diverse background to Phase One Landscapes. Outside of work, he enjoys many sports and exploring Colorado with his wife Anna, his 2 year old daughter Nora, and his dog, Luna.

Chris Leinster

Chris acquired his passion for gardening while planting pumpkins and picking raspberries on neighboring farms long before he was legally eligible to work. Before he graduated from Clemson University in 1992 with a degree in Marketing and Management, he had experience working in garden centers, starting in the loading dock, moving into yard sales, then working as a landscape laborer and finally leading a crew. He returned to his roots and received a Horticultural Technology degree from Northern Virginia Community College, and has been designing and developing gardens for Colorado’s finest properties since 1998.

Brendan Heiman

Brendan graduated from California Polytechnic State University with a degree in Landscape Architecture in 2011, and pursued his interest in smaller scale design and construction to Colorado. His background in California included Nursery as well as construction experience, and he enjoys applying his education and experience to the projects that we work on. The mountains is where you can find Brendan in his off time!

A graduate from the College of Environment and Design at The University of Georgia, Rick has a Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture and is a LEED Associate. He has been at Phase One Landscapes since 2014.  Having always had an affinity for the environment, Rick loves designing with nature and has worked in the field as an installer, designer, and project manager.  In his free time he enjoys getting outside, seeing live music, and exploring the mountains!

Cam Nester

Cam graduated from the University of Georgia in Athens with a Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture, and is a certified LEED Green Associate.  HI passion for Landscapes stems from his love for the outdoors and spending time in his grandfathers’ award winning gardens as a child.  As a Landscape Architect, Cam strivew to meet human needs while protecting and enhancing natural environments.  In his free time Cam enjoys live music, hanging out his cat Janis, and immersed in our beautiful Colorado nature.

Mandy graduated from Auburn University with a dual masters in Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture. Mandy enjoys using landscape design outdoors and in the environment to solve problems and create spaces that allow for many memories to be made.

Dave McFadyen

Dave McFadyen, also known as Coach Dave, has been coaching and consulting with Phase One Landscapes since 2009. He not only advises Dave and Dennis, as the owners, with overall business strategies and reporting, he has proved invaluable with direction and assistance for the design and construction teams concerning customer service and operations. He is also instrumental in building our client relations software and the ongoing modifications that make things incredibly efficient with our customer flow, relationships, internal communication, and document management. He has become an integral team member here at our firm. In his free time he consults with paying clients.

Patricia comes to Phase One Landscapes with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management with over 20 years experience in Business and Accounting and graduated Magna Cum Laude. She comes from a family background in the construction field. She has four beautiful children and three grandkids. She enjoys spending time with her family and working in her yard landscaping as well as playing tennis, horseback riding, and gardening.

Seth Conner

Seth is currently an accounting major at Metropolitan State University in Denver. He is an Army veteran. He provides great support to our construction team members by providing documentation and other administrative services. He enjoys his free time watching soccer, hockey, baseball, football and MotoGP. He also enjoys riding his motorcycle through the beautiful canyon trails of Colorado.

Karla Katt

Karla has been participating in, and involved with, Phase One Landscapes projects for years. Her sense of quality design and excellent landscapes has helped her to develop our custom maintenance and garden care division. Although relatively new to working in the green industry, having enhanced and grown the division for three years, her ability to learn and enthusiasm for beautiful landscapes and customer service are serving her and the teams clients well. Karla enjoys camping and going to the library with her grandson, Ashton, and spending time with family and friends.

Mark has 12 years of experience working in the green industry with 4 of his 8 years as a Maintenance Foreman with Phase One Landscapes. Having experience in Florida, Arizona, and now Colorado he enjoys the diversity of plant material and their needs in Colorado and around the country. Rock climbing, hiking, and snowboarding are high on his list when not at work.

Judd Vogan

Judd is an accomplished and dedicated Irrigation Specialist.  He launched his career at a championship golf course on the gulf coast of Florida in 1997, and became a Licensed Florida Irrigation Contractor in 2001.  Over the years he has gained a solid background in the design, installation, and service of residential and commercial irrigation systems for custom homes and properties.  He relocated to Colorado in 2010, and started with Phase One Landscapes in 2015, where he continues to provide exceptional irrigation services.  A devoted father of two teenage sons, he spends his free time with his family enjoying the Colorado outdoors.  Participating in hunting, archery, fishing and hiking he continues his love of the outdoors that he has had since childhood.  Relaxation is often in the company of a good book.

Jose Valdes

Jose has been with Phase One Landscapes since 1994. Since taking over as construction operations manager his duties have changed. He is now responsible for planning and coordinating activities concerned with the construction of structures, facilities, and systems. He is also involved in the conceptual development of a construction project and he oversees its organization, scheduling, and implementation. Jose brings a wealth of construction knowledge to the sites, and his amiable demeanor is enjoyable to be around. Jose enjoys watching baseball, football, and spending his free time with his wife and three daughters.

Gerardo Velasquez

Gerardo (her-are-doe) has 20 years of building projects with our firm, giving him experience at all levels of our services. Attention to detail and client satisfaction are top priorities for him and his team. Gerardo spends time taking pictures and playing as well as coaching his son’s soccer team, and spending time with his wife, two sons and a daughter.

Venancio Ferro Lopez

Venancio started working as a laborer in 1997, working his way to a foreman position in 2001. Venancio has a get it done attitude, has a lot of energy, and his ability to coordinate large and small projects is respected by all. Venancio spends his time off taking his wife and two sons sightseeing in the mountains

Modesto Zazueta

Modesto began as our delivery driver in 1993, and as we restructured the construction process he began supervising a crew in 1997. With 4 years of seeing it all, and 18 years of supervising experience he is versatile, handling complicated projects both large and small. Modesto enjoys camping, fishing, and spending time with his wife, three daughters and his son.

Carlos Inzunza

Carlos began as an assistant foreman in 2001, and was promoted to a crew foreman in 2005. Carlos has a quiet demeanor, concentrating on the task and project at hand. Carlos has demonstrated an excellent ability to get the projects done, with very little follow-up. Carlos spends his time off playing volleyball, watching sports, and spending time with his wife and two sons.

Jesus Ramon Ferro

Jesus Ramon joined the Phase One Landscapes team in 1998 as a laborer; he worked his way to a right-hand man and then progressed to a foreman position in 2013. He has shown great flexibility and the ability to handle the coordination of crew members and plans. He enjoys his free time going to the mountains and sightseeing with his wife, two sons and daughter.

Armando Lopez

Armando joined the Phase One team in 2001 as a laborer; he worked his way to a right-hand man and then progressed to a foreman position in 2013. He took over the crew that was previously assigned to Jose and since then has become a top performing foreman with the ability to properly coordinate crew members, plans and suppliers. He enjoys his free time with his wife and kids watching soccer and the Broncos, he also enjoys watching his son and daughter play soccer.
